"Pros: The hotel was great value for money. We were travelling for a funeral and therefore had to book quite late. We needed accommodation that would be suitable for elderly guests with some mobility issues and limited income! Although there are stairs to all the accommodation, the room on the lower floor was accessible for my parents with a short flight of stairs. The Ranch restaurant on the ground floor was convenient and had a lovely atmosphere. The breakfast was great value with a good choice including delicious porridge. The staff were extremely helpful and caring - they dealt with all our requests and questions without any fuss - nothing was too much trouble and they made sure that my parents were warm and comfortable and helped with their bags. The beds were also very comfortable. We were staying in January which was out of season so the restaurant was not open in the evenings but the staff recommended alternatives in Gorey. The weather was cold and, although there is no central heating, the rooms were very warm with electric heaters that worked very well. The hotel is still in a process of refurbishment but the staff are lovely and the hotel deserves to do well. I also liked the location as the hotel car park was free and made parking so much easier. I could walk to the beach in roughly 5 minutes for some fresh air before breakfast (it would have taken my parents much longer but it is a flat walk; if we had had more time, they would have managed it) and the local shops of Gorey village were all within 2 minutes walk of the hotel.
Cons: I think the hotel had just opened up after a winter break and the hotel living room space was still closed or at least too cold to sit in which would have been nice to know in advance but wasn't the end of the world as we did not really need it. We knew that the hotel is in the process of being refurbished so understood why the car park surface is a bit rough. Staying out of season meant it had been difficult to contact the hotel directly with questions before our stay but I managed to make contact by telephoning the number for the Ranch restaurant and found that the staff are the same - this could perhaps be made clearer on Bookings.com as it would help." ~Jo
"Pros: The reception staff were very friendly.
The breakfast was more than adequate.
If you ask at reception, they can let you have a kettle and mugs for your room.
Cons: As should be expected, the ensuite shower and toilet were small but clean." ~Emma
