"Pros: Splendid value, and great location. The owner was very nice and talkative, and advised us throughout our stay. The breakfast was nice and plentiful. The hotel has a small car park, but even if that's full, there was always some parking place to be found on the street, even in August (but depending on the hour, of course)." ~João
"Pros: The location is just amazing! Right on top of the river that runs down the mountain. Simple hotel for say in for a few nights!
Cons: The breakfast was nothing special, but it was off season so.. Bathrooms are shared but quite clean and close to the bedrooms." ~Miguel
"Pros: The location & views were spectacular. The peace & quiet. Accessible parking. Near attractions & small town
Cons: I do think the listing is misleading. A hot tub is listed but there is no hot tub. A spa bath & also a bath are listed. There is simply 1 spa bath. It could be a translation issue where hot tub is being used to mean bath, but spa bath & bath are also listed. Certainly in English a hot tub is a specific outdoor tub. This was disappointing. Also where the fixtures & fittings are to a high standard I was disappointed that the lights hanging in the kitchen are false/for decoration only." ~Lorna
"Pros: This was the perfect base for our stay in the Picos. The pictures in the listing are in a lot of ways very accurate, but they can't convey the overwhelming immensity of the view of the mountains from the porch and from the windows--we especially enjoyed the view of Picu Urriellu from the upstairs bedroom. There were two of us and we found that the apartment itself had everything we needed to cook and to relax in between our various journeys.
Most of the reviews mention the switchback drive up to the apartment, and while the road can get a bit tight if someone's coming the other way, it's actually a pretty forgiving road for non-local drivers––it's paved, there are turnouts at the end of most if not all of the hairpin turns, and it's never too steep or precipitous at the sides of the roadway (I've driven a lot of treacherous mountain roads to get to rural accommodations, and this one is downright friendly in comparison). I could see parking being a little tight if someone else is staying in the downstairs apartment, but we were there alone and even though our car was larger than we had planned on (we had requested a Mini from the rental agency and got a Jeep) we never had any real difficulty getting up to and down from Camarmeña. The drive is worth it for the views.
If you're looking at this apartment you're probably thinking of hiking the Ruta del Cares, and it's in the perfect place for doing so without worrying about parking down in the valley––a leisurely downhill amble of around 20mins brings you to the Hotel Garganta, and while it took us maybe twice as long to drag ourselves back up the switchbacks with dead legs at the end of the day, it was nice not to have to do any vehicular maneuvering at the end of a long hike (plus walking uphill is a good way to stretch out your legs!).
It was totally effortless to check ourselves in and out, and we couldn't have had a better stay. Highly recommended!
Cons: Everything was great!" ~Andrew
