"Pros: The property is in a small cluster of houses well into the Yorkshire Dales. This is a fantastic location, particularly if you're into walking or just want to explore a very beautiful area of the UK. This does mean it's quite remote, without many local facilities (without driving, the extent is a phonebox and a pub!) - you will know whether this appeals to you. It is very easy to pop by one of the many smaller shops in the Dales for essentials, and the supermarkets in Catterick Garrison/Catterick/Richmond aren't too far away. There's a fairly large fridge and freezer, plus pantry cupboard, so it's very practical to stock up on your way to the property. There did seem to be a small welcome package of cake/biscuits/milk/wine/ice cubes, but perhaps some of these were left by the previous holidaymaker! Non-food essentials like kitchen towel and surface wipes seemed to have been provided. If you need to fill up your car, the community garage in Hawes is almost certainly the best prices around. (It also looked like there were charging points for EVs here; although these seemed quite common.) It's an upside down house - bedrooms downstairs, combined living room and kitchen upstairs. It's quickly obvious that this is the better layout for the property (and common in the area). It's compact but well laid out - even with the full occupancy of 4 adults it feels like there will be ample room. Key collection is via a keysafe and code, so arrival time is very flexible. However, I would advise arriving in the daylight, at least for the first time. You can pull your car right up to the front door to unpack, which is convenient, but you are supposed to return it to the car park afterwards. Heating is controllable on a per room basis, which is nice to accommodate different preferences. The lighting is well considered and bright. Cons: There are a few minor comments, most of which won't cause you an issue if you're aware: The directions given are generally very good - a good sat nav will almost exactly find it - but the final bit could be slightly clearer. Firstly, the initial turn off the road is into a field; there's just enough room to pull your car off the road to open the gate. Secondly, once you're through the first gate and in the field (there's a hardened track), you will come to a split. Don't go straight on to the house you can see! You need to turn to the right, almost turning back on yourself, to the car park that's not quite obvious from the split. (There was a sign at the split, but I only noticed that on about the third day.) The car park itself is quite small, so I'd suggest coming in a single vehicle. It is mentioned in the listing, but you have an electric car, there is nowhere to charge it at the property. The downstairs does get somewhat colder than upstairs, especially at night. I advise checking the temperature an hour or two before you want to turn in, to avoid any cold surprises on the first night. The combined bath and shower is slightly awkward to get in and out (you have to get in at one end). If you're mobile that's no issue, but if not take a good look at the bathroom photo in the listing. A washer/dryer would be fantastic - but it's unclear where you'd put one! Internet worked fine but was slow (probably about 2Mbit download). This is likely the best available at the location, and sufficient for lighter use but if fast internet is a priority, then perhaps look elsewhere (I think Gunnerside has fibre.) It would help to put the SSID next to the password (or change it to something obvious). I think it's currently "BTHub4-K5CX". Similarly, there is no mobile signal at the house. There is a landline phone, but they do ask you only make outgoing calls in emergencies." ~Jessica
