"Pros: We had an unbelievable stay with Jittra and Gai. They were very welcoming, and after explaining, my sister has twisted her ankle recently. Gai adapted our trip to Tham Lod cave to make it possible for us both to visit this spectacular place. Gai is born and raised in Tham Lod , so as a guide, he is amazing, explaining in detail the history of the cave and the surrounding area with great pride and knowledge. By staying at their homested, we were able to visit the caves after the day tourists had left, and witnes the awsomme sight of the swifts returning to the cave and the bats going off into the night. Jittra also accompanied me to the Tuesday market where hill tribe people join together to sell their wares. She spent time explaining the different foods and spices. Jittra cooked us amazing food during our stay. Gai also does one to three day trecks, for more active guests (I wish I was ten years younger ) as his knowledge and good Engish speaking skills would make these trips fabulous. I really would recommend staying for at least 2 nights to take a tour with Gai rather than doing a long arduous day trip from Pai with a guide who doesn't have the knowledge and enthusiasm of Gai. "Pros: Perfect bubble house stay. Beautiful views of the river and mountains. Could even have a little swim in the river. I had a great time relaxing and lounging on my terrace just looking at the views. One of my last stops on the Mae Hong Song loop, sooooo worth it. Food was basic but yummy! I was surprised to find out they had a little restaurant there. Cons: A bit rough around the edges. The fake grass carpet was peeling around the edges everywhere, and the walkway to the rooms was wobbly and also beginning to tear up. Also a lot of mosquitoes but that's to be expected! The way to get there is obviously quite bumpy but since you're probably on a bike and have been driving around a bunch of different places, you'll be fine!" ~Adam

"Pros: This location can be succinctly described as Classy: designed and decorated with taste, giving it a unique combination of comfort and hominess together with subdued yet classy luxuriousness. The location is heart-stoppingly beautiful on the upper slope of a hill overlooking a winding creek, thick rainforest and green agricultural fields - with views going to a far far distance. The hosts personally attended to our every request and took extra steps to pamper us: for example the hostess handed us a pair of binoculars because the view is so amazing and there really are so many layers of interesting things to see. The heavy rainfall kept us indoor but the outdoor covered jacuzzi facing the amazing view was an exceptional experience. There is a world of additional activities which we could not partake in or enjoy - because we were there for only one night and under heavy rainfall - but this is a place worth staying at - and for longer durations. Cons: The water pressure in the shower was a bit weak - we find this is common in Thailand." ~Yoni

"Pros: The Cave Lodge is a great base for exploring the nearby areas. We loved our little bungalow - it felt like being in a tree house. It was however very damp there (being wet season) and not so great having only cold shower (even though we were told there was meant to be hot shower during certain hours). We enjoyed doing the white-water kayaking trip #2 through the Tham Lot cave, local walks and motorbike day tour out to the Myanmar border. We found the staff not so helpful in terms of providing correct advice (quite the opposite - we almost missed out on doing the motorbike ride that we had to arrange ourselves last minute, as the offer from the Cave Lodge staff was not good - limited only to the local area and overpriced). Our breakfast seemed also quite expensive and not so great and combined with the lack of hot shower (that was needed after our days spent out and about!) and not that helpful staff lead to our slightly lower overall rating. It is still a great place to stay that I would 100% recommend. Cons: As per above." ~Misha
