"Pros: Breakfast wasn't included but the owner left some milk, rolls and jams plus coffee and tea. If it weren't for the fact that we wanted to stay in Ruti because our grandmother was born there, the location would have been terrible. We came by bus around 11:30 in the rain and fortunately knew there was a restaurant in town. We walked to it and had a nice lunch but they closed at 1:00pm and weren't open that night (a Monday.) The restaurant owner told us to take the bus to the next town where there was a coffee shop that opened at two. We were able to leave our luggage with a lovely woman at the bonhof in Linthal so we could explore a little. Fortunately, we met an American woman who showed us where the coffee shop was and who also showed us where there was a grocery store so we could get something for supper. The store was a long way from the train station by foot. When we returned to the bonhof the nice woman offered to drive us back to Ruti which was fortunate because without her we would have had a tough time finding the place even with the address. There was no sign advertising it and it was only by chance that a man walked by who recognized the name when I showed it to him. No sign on property. Owner came to the door when I rang the bell and showed us to the apartment which was behind hers. The apartment was nice, good size kitchen with micro, stove, and different coffee pots. Large living room with TV she showed us how to use. Large bedroom with one queen and one single bed. Large windows with mountain views. We asked the owner if we could get a taxi to take us to the bus stop which was about half a mile away. One wasn't available at 11:00 when we were supposed to vacate. We asked for a later time and she did say it was OK for us to stay until the taxi arrived at 1:00pm. And the great part was the driver took us right to the bonhof where we could get the train. Cons: The bathroom was cramped. Hard to find a place to put things down. Towels were flimsy but there were two bigger ones for hot tub which we didn't use (towels or tub.) One roll of mostly used up toilet paper. Could have asked for more I suppose but we were annoyed so used tissues and left half a tissue to show her our "duress." Four paper napkins; two for dinner, two for breakfast. Our impression was that she was cheap. We had hoped to use the washer/dryer but it looked too complicated for us to tackle." ~Patricia

"Pros: Rüti is a nice, small and quiet village, where even trains ride slow and quiet, and the sound of flowing river obscures much of other noises. Yet there's a train station, a restaurant, and more restaurants and stores in nearby villages (reachable even on foot). The apartment itself is clean and even though renovation is slight, there are certain important things done right: modern windows, very modern kitchen, and fairly fresh bathroom and toilet setups. It's quite spacious (save for low ceilings) and bright, and generally comfortable. Well equipped, too - first time I've seen rental property to have enough dishwasher tablets. Nice neighbours. Communication with host is smooth, and checkin/checkout process is automated. Cons: It's an old house, so sound-proofing is not great - but it wasn't a nuisance as neighbours were never loud at night, more of a peculiarity. Ceiling is low and door frames are lower still, so watch your head if you're tall. Living room sofa and chairs are comfortable, but their cover is very rough, I couldn't stand skin contact with it, so some covering would be handy (I haven't explored the house much though, maybe there is some somewhere). Also better description of what's available to guests from communal house areas would be nice - there's a garden and a backyard, but it wasn't clear if it's shared or someone else's. But all the above is minor - it's a great place." ~Borys
