"Pros: Escape from city life to a beautiful island in the mangroves. Simple rooms that are clean, comfortable and quiet. Don't expect luxury: sun-warmed water only, and electric sockets for charging only in the common area. Abdou and Anne and their staff run a retreat where they are more than willing to share with their guests the beauty, culture and nature of the Casamance. Day trips to see manatees and dolphins; eating flame-grilled mangrove oysters; kayaking into the green...all while being back in time for a sunset beer overlooking the river. Cons: I would not change a thing, except perhaps that breakfast (homemade bread and jams) is served with nescafé and powdered milk; I'd invest in a good coffee machine and serve espresso." ~Marion
