"Pros: Excellent location in the middle of the small picturesque village, the house is perfect for a family of 4. With rough stone walls give the cozy feeling, topped with a Wooden stove (Salamandra). You won't be cold at least when its on. It was also easy to find good food around, but that's one of "Portugal's trademarks" I guess :) The access to the top of Serra da Estrela is just a 25 minute drive, and I found the access through Sabugueiro less sinuous and less scary than others. Winter Tip : Make sure to wear warm cloths (specially children) if travelling to the top, altough at the village weather seems ok, as you go up and reach 1900m it will change drastically... Cons: Its a bit difficult to find a balance on the wooden stove, as quite easily you can turn that small house in a sauna :) and burn the whole wood. But with a bit of practice cutting off oxygen, I'm sure its possible, just didn't had the time." ~Sergio

"Pros: We had an awesome time in January 2025, driving up from Lisbon with the whole family. The ski slopes are just a 25-minute drive away. The house is super cozy, and the windy weather was totally made up for by the warm fireplace and the comfy interior. A couple of tips: 1. If you’re driving, park near the church. It’s just a 2-minute walk, and you’ll avoid navigating the narrow streets. 2. Make sure to stop by the nearby shop and grab some local cheese. You won’t regret it!" ~Igor

"Pros: Location is great, we love Sabugueiro. House is beautifully renovated and has three floors with one doble bedroom with private bathroom on ground floor. Kitchenette and livingroom are on 1st floor and on the upper floor you'll the second bedroom, with 2 doble beds and bathroom. We liked the decor and the owner was helpful and nice. Cons: Digital key is great for checkin, but we prefer to have real keys for using after checkin, so we don't have to use our phones constantly and properly disconnect from city life. The house lacks a few basic things which we humbly recommend: Kitchen: a table towel for the meal space, a citrus juicer (manual is more than enough), a pasta colander, and a shelve to store one's items (above the counter) Less necessary, but provides memorable memories: set of cards/domino or some other typical game, some books of local costumes, like wool, shepherds, cheese makers, cheese. Overall, we had a good time and recommend." ~Ana
