"Pros: The location, looking out over Ulugan bay, was beautiful. We loved our bungalow with it's large verandah to relax on looking out over the rainforest and bay. We loved being amid the jungle wildlife. We loved the quietness of the venue. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating. The retreat organised a couple of local tours for us, both of which were absolutely wonderful. The food at the restaurant was good, without being great; but it was fun that the staff got to know our likes and dislikes. Cons: Don't go to this Jungle Retreat expecting 5-star highly trained staff, perfect gourmet food or a 5 star pool environment. Don't get me wrong - I loved the more laid back feel of Atemaru. The restaurant is perfectly adequate, and we had some great local Filipino food; but because of their limited cooking facilities (outdoor fire under a homemade chimney), the meat was often overcooked. The pool is immaculately maintained, but if you want to lounge in the pool you have to use the small kiddy pool because the main pool is all 6ft deep with no steps. The staff could be more attentive - we ran out of filtered water a few times and had to take our water jugs up to the restaurant to ask them to be filled; and the room servicing was a bit slow. Also, don't expect to easily get to the beach... it's a 30-40min hike through the jungle, steeply downhill at first, to get there; and the hike back is steep and sweaty!" ~Michelle

"Pros: This is the most breathtaking place we stayed in the philippines. The view from the restaurant and pool are out of this world and just blow you away. The food is also the best we’ve had in the philippines, the ingredients are all organic and grown on the property or locally sourced. It truly is a hidden gem in Palawan. Cons: Nothing" ~Catherine
