"Pros: The apartment is a beautifully renovated old house, with modern furnishings for conform but with old original style all around. Everything was very clean and in good working order. The kitchenette is small, but it has a nice induction stovetop and a combi (induction+grill+microwave) oven to cook there if you want. There is coffee and tea and a small fridge filled with soft drinks and some beers from a local brewery. They even let you try one of the beers for free, which I think is a nice touch. The beds were nice and comfortable, even for tall and heavy people. The sofa and the rest of the furniture in the living/dining room area were also comfortable and adequate for 4 people.
it was a a bit confusing to find the door, since there is no door number and no picture of the door in Booking, but then you can deduce it because it's the only door between two stores. The check-in was very easy; you call a number and they explain everything and give you a code for a lockbox next to the door where the key is stored.
The area is the best you can find. It's located on a pedestrian street, right in the center of the beautiful city of Dokkum. There are a lot of pubs and restaurants right next door and most of the sights of the city are a few minutes walking.
If you come by car, there is free parking with chargers for electric cars (De Helling) about 5 minutes away; very convenient if you come by car.
I would totally recommend this apartment for a family with 1-2 children. With good weather, you can rent some bikes and sightsee around, visit some museums (most have activities for children) or rent a boat or a canoe and go around the city canals.
Cons: There is a beautiful church less less than 100 meters away that rings its bells every 30 minutes 24/7, and you can hear them rather loud even with all windows closed. I put in earplugs and slept like a baby, but my wife, who doesn't like earplugs and is a light sleeper, had a bad night.
The apartment is in the top floor of a gable roof building. Even though the ceiling is not low, even for taller than average people, it's angled, so in some parts (mainly the kitchenette) you need to be careful not to hit your head against some supporting beams." ~Pedro
