"Pros: This camp is right amongst the dunes, and was walking distance to the highest dune in Chigaga, where we watched the sunset from. All the camps in Chigaga are lined up along the dunes and as soon as you walk up a small dune behind the camp you can see your neighbours, but when you're in camp you feel like you're miles from anywhere.
We were the only ones staying there which we loved, but they definitely cater to bigger groups, with seating for 20 or 30 people. Had they been fully booked it may have been a bit too busy for us.
Around sunset we went for a walk by ourselves through the dunes and as the sun dropped we spotted many dune tours and sunset camel riders. We certainly weren't alone in the desert, but it was still a lovely experience. We walked back after sunset with the desert dusk lighting our way and our host had come to look for us, but we were not far from camp by that time.
We really enjoyed the stay, and would recommend the camp as being in the middle of the good part of the dunes.
Cons: The price for the camp doesn't include the transfer, which you need a 4WD to get there. We spent a long evening messaging back and forth with the owner arranging our transport and meals. Much of this arduous task was our own fault for not speaking French or Arabic, but it would be much easier if costs were transparent upfront. Our advice is make sure you arrange the transport and meals before setting off. We paid €140 for two people for the return transfer, which involves a lot of driving in soft sand, and our driver Hamza was excellent." ~Maree
