"Pros: The host is a german-speaking man who doesn't live on Martinique. He refused communicating in english although he confirmed he can speak it (and he did at the end). Using booking chat was very problematic and he insisted on phone calls, even though I made it very clear that I only use booking app as I do lots of bookings and I have to keep all chats with properties in a single place. Property was booked a few months beforehand. The host accepted booking and raised no concerns during the 2 months of free cancellation period after which he secured a full payment for himself. The problem started 2 days before the arrival when he said couldn't see my profile data which I updated immediately. He ignored my messages and made an ultimatum that I am obliged to present my passport and my proof of residential address to his cousin as she actually runs the property, otherwise he threatened me and my wife to cancel the booking with no reimbursement (16 days fully paid just to mention!). Obviously those requirements are not listed in his property's policy, I never agreed to those during the booking, therefore I opened a case with Booking Support asking to reject any additional conditions raised last minute. Support took my side and re-confirmed my reservation. Upon the arrival though, we were met by his cousin (ill-mannered, rude and arrogant woman) who made a scandal. I had to spent the next hour in defence against 2 angry shouting in german language cousins (the man was on a phone), explaining that they have no right to demand anything other than what their own written policy says - the deposit. Of course their arguments couldn't stand (and Booking Support was covering my back), so she grabbed the deposit from my hand with a grimace, let us in and left furiously (no "goodbye's" obviously). The host could easily avoid the conflict but chose not to. Cons: 1. He had choice: a) WRITE IN any requirements in the property's policy BEFOREHAND; b) use SECURE options for ID verification; c) reject the reservation AND DON'T ACCEPT PAYMENT; e) open customer support case and complain about the data not visible to him. And if the host selects none - under NO circumstances can he threaten clients with a non-reimbursement cancellation. 2. If you as a host reject the idea of chatting via Booking chat - don't be on booking.com. Clients are not obliged using other messengers or calling you. Client pays you, so client's preference is your priority. 3. If you are a host and your booking application doesn't work or doesn;t show some data - it is YOUR problem. Open Booking Support case or ask a question, but don't annoy customers with your problems. Appatment itself is not what you expect at this price - outdated and needs a DEEP cleaning. Dirt, spider nets, dead bugs, HUGE amount of ants everywhere. No mosquito nets on the windows, no AC in the living room and you can't keep the windows open due to a big amount of insects coming in from outside. Balcony doors can't be locked at all, the locks are broken. Cherry on top - the neighbour below who comes and rings your door and shouts that you are walking too loud or use washing mashine in the middle of the day. Owners presented themselves as rude, disrespectful, pushy, arrogant and ungrateful individuals. They have no clue about customer service, they egoistically prioritize their immediate needs over common sense, written and verbal agreements and client satisfaction and they aren't simply capable of cleaning the property. They can show up late for check-out like it's no big deal, while yelling at you when you try to check-in 5 mins before the agreed time. They take your money for granted. My advice is - avoid it, save your good mood and time, it definitely doesn't worth hassle." ~Жермен
