"Pros: An old-fashioned and very popular hotel in its own well-fortified grounds just outside the business district in Nairobi.
We were made extremely welcome by the staff once we arrived late (delayed flight). The security arrangements were a surprise but apparently not uncommon in this city.
Our rooms were really clean and somewhat sparse but with loads of room. Not sure if the heating worked so it felt rather chilly at night.
The pool area was beautiful with sauna loungers and places to eat and have drinks - obviously also a very popular spot for local business folk in their suits to have meetings!
We only had a few meals in the hotel: food and drink were OK rather than exceptional. All of the staff we encountered were incredibly polite and helpful: their English was good.
A final shout out to the excellent shop! Medicine, post cards and tasteful gifts on offer at the entrance.
Cons: Hard to say how The Fairview stacks up on price compared to other comparable hotels in Nairobi but US$450 per night seemed really steep." ~Rupert
