"Pros: Fantastic hotel in a lovely little town. Both the hotel, and Tsuwano itself, exceeded all expectations. I travel around slightly-off-the-beaten-track spots like this in Japan a lot and try to find charming little ryokans or minshukus that are value for money. Don't think I've ever found a better one than this. From the entrance it is clear you're entering a place that's punching above its weight. It looks much nicer than you'd expect for the price. Turned up early and the friendly staff were more than happy to let me check in early and make use of the facilities which include a very nice little rooftop bath (rotenburo) and - remarkably - free drinks, including whiskey and shochu, in the little area on the ground floor from 5pm. The hotel place was spotless (it looks very new) and the Japanese-style breakfast was very nice indeed. I'l definitely visit Tsuwano again one day, and I'll definitely stay here. Cons: I loved this place. Admittedly, staying in a Japanese-style room means taking out your own futon but that's par for the course. There was no shower in the room, but again, that's the name of the game. (I wouldn't let any of this stop you staying here. Lovely hotel.)" ~Paul
