"Pros: The hotel is tucked away in the Kiso mountains, making it a very secluded and private stay.
We booked a full package including kaiseki-style dinner and breakfast, which we got to enjoy in a private room and which we liked very much. It all felt like a very authentic Japanese experience, and the staff made sure we felt welcome and had everything we needed. The serving staff spoke proper English so it was easy enough to communicate with each other.
The room was simple, but clean, and had everything for a comfortable stay.
It seems the hotel offers a shuttle bus to the nearby town of Tsumago-Juku, which is great for people coming by public transportation. As we had a car we did not make use of this service.
Cons: We booked the private observation bath, as we wanted to enjoy an onsen experience together. This was a small climb up the mountain. Unfortunately, when we arrived there was a massive spider in the onsen room near the bath. As there was a telephone in this room, we tried calling reception but the line was just dead... Luckily as we immediately sent them a message on booking.com that we did not make use of the onsen, they just took it from our invoice right away without any hassle." ~Jyzzie
