"Pros: Traditional ryokan if you want to experience authentic Japanese lifestyle and cuisine. Have to lay futons yourself. Dinner was wagyu beef BBQ, they didn’t have fish sashimi and served horsemeat instead (probably due to the Aso mountaineous region), which we didn’t dare to try. Wagyu was very good quality, other dishes were homegrown and healthy, which needs some accustom to. Breakfast was traditional Japanese style which was very good! Private onsens available for booking."
