"Pros: I feel like this hotel is probably doing the best it can despite factors it can’t control (surrounded by abandoned buildings, unstable power supply). The pool is beautiful, and once you get past first impressions, it does feel secure. It is certainly not a resort in any way, but I wasn’t expecting it to be for $45 a night. The restaurant had decent food. There is a convenience store next door. The staff was helpful when asked and worked with me on google translate as my Spanish is not great. If you want nicer beach bars and beaches, walk left, away from town and you will find some. Unfortunately it took me until the last day to discover that. Cons: Especially as a solo traveller, I was a little sketched out by my first impression (abandoned buildings everywhere). The walk along the beach from town was past tons of abandoned buildings as well. The staff were always having their own little hang out party (which I can’t blame them too much as there was never a single person in the bar or restaurant). We lost power my first night there and the palm fronds on the sheet metal roof made such a racket I thought maybe there was a troup of monkeys tearing my roof off. Power did not return until 4 the next day (not that the hotel can help that - they did periodically turn on a generator). It did not seem super clean, but it’s also clearly an old building so that may not be able to be helped. Despite having a pool bar (that was never staffed) guests were not allowed to bring drinks to the pool. This seemed odd to me." ~Terri

"Pros: I loved it so much. It’s exactly how you see in the pictures. Doesn’t feel like a hotel at all. Cozy, colorful & lots of art. Cons: The ONLY small thing I didn’t like is that with the “desayuno chapin” there’s no option of sausage. That’s really it." ~Gabriela
