"Pros: It was close to where we needed to be.
Cons: Having difficulties locating the property entrance, I IM'd NOVASOL. Response arrived 23 HOURS LATER. Instead of helping, they said I was too early (2pm vs 4 pm). Great customer service! Thankfully, I had figured it out 23 hours earlier.
Property is above a bar. 6-7 guys were getting wasted at the terrace while blasting bad techno music. They kept going for HOURS. After they drunkenly asked my wife to join them, we found the lady who owns the bar, She said it was open, we went upstairs.
Something smelled foul. The garbage bin smelled of French cheese that had come back from the dead, its stench incrusted in the bin. I’m not too phased by strong cheese, but I don’t expect a rental property to REEK of long past its sell-by-date cheese. We put the garbage bin outside of the apartment, in the staircase, hoping someone may get the hint (they didn’t). No towels, we had to go downstairs again to ask for some. No WIFI password to be found anywhere. Novasol customer being AWOL, we decided against IM’ing them. Our phone reception was quasi non-existent, we had barely internet at all.
Coming from the superb Hotel Mercure Lyon Part-Dieu to this was quite the downgrade. Like jumping off a cliff. We took off not long after, my sister who was nearby coming to get us. Yes, she also got drunkenly asked to join the boys. Party on, Wayne.
Coming back later, the techno bros had gone home, or wherever they stumbled to. We tried to sleep. I woke up a few times during the night because it was freezing. I tried to turn up the heat from the radiators and, you guessed it, it didn’t work. So I got fully dressed, put a beanie on, and slept like a hobo in the bed.
By morning and after little rest, we said F this, went & stayed at my sister’s place for the 2 remaining nights, despite her house being currently in the middle of renovations - the reason why we didn’t stay with her in the 1st place)."
