"Pros: Amazing hosts! Proposed to my future wife in a nearby cave! Božica and her husband were very supportive, offering suggestions of where to go and giving us a gift as congratulations. Croatian hospitality at its best. The apartment/house is tight next to their house but you don't even notice they are there. Very clean, great location to visit other sites in the vicinity. Highly recommended" ~Anonymous
"Pros: Nice views, good hot tub and thoughtful extras such as a fruit and meat platter, bread, eggs and wine on arrival, fresh flowers and a homemade dessert brought to us in the week. Beautiful flowers in the garden that attracted interesting wildlife including a hummingbird moth!
The guidebook was very useful and we made the most of a lot of the suggestions, visiting the bear sanctuary (run by volunteers and through donations), Plitvice Lakes (we went here twice as the weather was poor the first time), kayaking closeby, Majerovo vrilo (the spring and flour mill within walking distance) and the Nehaj Fortress and Northern Velebit National Park. We stayed for 8 nights and so visited a lot of the attractions which were excellent, but it does involve a lot of driving (a few hours a day). If you're staying for an extended period and like to explore a lot then as long as you enjoy driving, this will be fine.
We also visited quite a few of the recommended restaurants, more than we would usually do self-catering as they were very reasonably priced. This included the local pizzeria and Buffet Lovac (both walking distance, we pre-ordered lamb peka at Lovac and it was delicious) and Bistro Ribic in Otočac (wonderful views to enjoy with your delicious food). At 'home', we cooked mainly on the bbq but did a couple of meals on the hob/in the oven. The kitchen is very well stocked with lots of oil, spices and even flour, so we could enjoy pancakes!
Cons: We hadn't realised from the photos but it's worth being aware that you only have access to the ground floor of the house. The upstairs is blocked off with no one there so the house is still very private." ~Amy
