"Pros: Kerri at the front desk was absolutely lovely. Free cookies! Coffee shop and liquor store are a 2 minute walk away. Plenty of restaurants in the area. We recently stayed at your property and had requested an accessible room in advance of our arrival. While we were informed there was only one accessible room on-site, it unfortunately was not suitable for our stay. That said, we were offered a ground-floor room which met our needs and was appreciated. Cons: Unfortunately, our arrival was marred by a concerning issue regarding accessible parking as the accessible parking spot was occupied. With the lot full and us temporarily double-parked, I asked the front desk if there was an alternative accessible parking space available. I was informed that the manager was parked in the only designated accessible spot, but she “had a placard.” I found this decision quite troubling. The manager, as I later observed, was seated comfortably in the lobby with a roboboot on one leg. She was clearly mobile and capable of walking short distances. In contrast, we were traveling with someone who uses a wheelchair and relies heavily on appropriate accessible infrastructure for mobility and comfort. When I questioned the manager about occupying the accessible space, she responded that she was “in a lot of pain.” I explained that while that might be the case, my companion’s needs are different; her mobility impairment is permanent and requires consistent and thoughtful accommodation. The manager offered to move her car in “five minutes” but ultimately got up and did so right away. We had, in the meantime, parked in a distant spot that proved navigable but unnecessarily difficult. What remains deeply frustrating is that this situation was avoidable. A few practical alternatives could have included: Marking a reserved space for the manager temporarily during her recovery. Asking a colleague or the person she was with to drop her off and park the vehicle elsewhere. Utilizing short-term parking by the door for personal needs without taking the only accessible spot intended for guests. As a manager in the hospitality industry, especially at a facility with only one accessible room and one accessible parking space, there is an even greater responsibility to plan ahead and ensure that those limited accommodations are available for guests who rely on them. It was disappointing to see that foresight and sensitivity were lacking." ~Sheila
