"Pros: We met the owner close to site for a key handover, it was really easy to find with his directions and he was really flexible with us on arrival time. The house has a small courtyard area with a lockable door, an outside table and a swing seat. Inside its very well appointed with a large double bedroom to the right with an ensuite. We didn't use the shower in this as its over a bath, and there is no screen, but it was nice having an ensuite loo. Next to this, just off the hall is the family showerroom, with an excellent shower & a loo. Then into the main living area/kitchen combined. Its a lovely large space, with a dining table. We did cook in the kitchen, and found we had everything we needed. There was a supply of random kitchen items that you always hope to find, salt/pepper/sugar etc. The washing machine was put to use (and detergent supplied) and we used both the small foldable airer and also the line outside (round back and up the stairs) There is a bedroom off the livingroom (there is no aircon in there but my daughter was comfortable enough despite it being 36 degrees - we put the aircon on in the livingroom and left the door open to cool the room a little. We were given a fold down bed for my son and he slept in the livingroom, but he had the option of using the sofabed if he preferred. There were extra useful things like lists of where to eat and shop, and small details like a sun hat and umbrella in the hall. The aircon was grand and all the beds comfortable. Overall, out of rental accommodations we've stayed in, this one was really superb and we'd recommend it
Cons: Our host told us he was planning refurbishing the ensuite soon, and it is a bit dated, but it was totally fine for us. Given its a house that invites you to stay in and cook, the lack of a dishwasher was a bit of a pain, we ate in more there because the kitchen was better than other places we stayed, but then there is the dishes to do! There was ample hot water and a good drying rack, and plenty washing up liquid. With a little juggling, I think a dishwasher could be incorporated though ;) Other than that, the only bug bear we had was that one of the curtain poles in the livingroom had come down at some point before our visit and not been replaced, and we could have done with some pegs to keep our washing on the line/airer when we put it outside, it was breezy and our undies kept blowing off the dryer. If you had a very low slung car, the old town road might prove to be a bit scary, its a tad 'rustic'. But I'd stay at this accommodation again, very happily" ~Eilidh
